Years Metro Arts Alliance has been staging Jazz in July concerts. This year, you can catch 21 concerts—featuring classic jazz, Dixieland, salsa, big band and more—during July at venues throughout the metro area. The series kicks off July 3 with the Des Moines Symphony’s “Yankee Doodle Pops” concert on the Iowa State Capitol grounds.

Number of professional national artists who will show and sell their works at the Des Moines Arts Festival, June 22–24 at Western Gateway Park. The popular free event, which draws more than 200,000 people annually, also will include works by 22 emerging Iowa artists, a film festival, a public interactive arts project, children’s hands-on activities, a wine pavilion and plenty of live entertainment. New this year is a “merchandise design contest;” the winning design will be printed on an item that will be sold at the festival.
