Start with the perfect dress in brown, this year's most versatile color (no, it's not the new black), that's perfect with gold, copper, tortoise, red and, of course, black.
On these pages, we show you the hottest trends in fashion-forward accessories, and how to make them work. Because now is the perfect time to shop for both big occasions and daytime necessities. Shopping has never been better, with a wide range of new shops in Greater Des Moines. Simply put, there's never been a better time for fashion. And because it's an annual certainty that we will buy gifts for others-and for ourselves.
Dress is up
For a festive evening occasion or dinner in one of Des Moines' chic restaurants, add bling and carry this year's fashionable clutch or an evening bag with a handle (the better to carry onto the dance floor). Drape a shawl around your shoulders for added elegance. Add bold, bold jewelry and remember, the women who run things often wear dressy heels all day and into the night. Try one of this year's new ankle-height booties, or declare your independence with a trendy flat shoe.
Dress it down
The right dress is just as appropriate at the office as at night. For daytime, add a jacket and a bag roomy enough to carry work. Tie on a scarf or wear it looped around the neck. Add memorable earrings, an armload of bracelets and either comfy flats or dressy heels. For daytime, remember: Even if you don't run the place, you should look like you could.
