On the Cover – Nov/Dec 17

Detail from an installation by artist Olivia Valentine, who, along with her equally talented husband, Firat Erdim, is featured in this story. The permanent installation, “Guest Room at the Drake,” is in a client’s Chicago apartment. The artwork suggests a pair of casement windows, created with bobbin lace. Suspended from the lace of one window frame, shown below, are pieces of actual window trimwork, remnants of a recent remodeling. The name comes from the client’s view of the legendary Drake Hotel.
